Rhoma Acans – Gypsy Eyes
Far from being an ethnographic record, “Rhoma Acans” questions what family is, what tradition is and how they both approach or depart. The director looks at her own family’s history and its relation to the weight of gypsy tradition, to which they once belonged. This journey of self-discovery meets the figure of Joaquina, a young girl fully inserted in the Gypsy community and who is a counterpoint to the experience of the director, helping her to understand what has been modified, what remains and what still needs to change after successive generations of strong female characters.
