Biography

Luis has a Post-graduate in ‘Cinema and Television’ and ‘Audio-visual and Multimedia’ from Lisbon University, and wrote his Master Final Project on violence in child animation.

He has successfully worked on animation and related fields since 1987, and created, produced and directed award-winning short movies and tv series receiving more than 100 international awards, honnor mentions, selectionsand special invitations. Among many other prices, Luis da Matta Almeida’s first award was the Cartoon d’Or (European Oscar in Animation), and in 2017, he received the USA NY Tribeca Film Festival’s Best Animation award.

Luis is the CEO and Creative & Executive Producer of Sparkle Zeppelin and is a member of the Directors’ Board of Cartoon, supported by Creative Europe. He is also Vice-President of APCA.
