Ana Markl was born in Lisbon in 1979. A lifelong lover of books and storytelling, she first graduated in Modern Languages and Literatures before going on to study Journalism at CENJOR.
She began her career at Blitz, where she turned her passion for music and movies into a profession, and later wrote about culture and society for publications including Time Out and Expresso. In 2010, she joined the founding team of channel Q, working as both a writer and presenter until 2016. She has also written, hosted and contributed to several programmes for RTP, and hosted the Antena 3 morning show. Today, she continues to work in audio through the podcasts Voz de Cama — co-hosted with sexologist Tânia Graça — and Igualmente, IKEA Portugal’s podcast on diversity, equity and inclusion.
Ana is the author of the children’s books Onde Moram os Teus Macaquinhos and Avó, Onde É Que Estavas no 25 de Abril?. Her latest book, Do Outro Lado do Tempo, is written for today’s teenagers as much as for the parents trying to reconnect with their own past in order to better understand their children.
She also translates children’s books, creates digital content centred on empathy and human connection, and has recently written a play for the PANOS festival at the invitation of TNDMII. Still, the work she treasures most is making up stories with her son.
